What are Feather Mites?
Feather mites are miniscule parasites found on the legs of feathered horses, living on the skin and feeding on the dead skin cells. They do not travel any further than the feathers so you will not find them in manes or tails for instance. They can also feed off the scabs formed through Mallenders & Sallenders so the two conditions often go hand in hand. This leads to an irritated horse with very itchy skin with scabs forming and a cycle of inflammation and itching (caused by the horse rubbing, biting and stamping) which can be very hard to break, especially as the mites are easily transmitted. You can save on vet treatments which only work on the adult mites. The spray help to keep in control of feather mites week after week, leading to a happier horse and owner!

Directions of use:
Farrier Biosect Mite Spray is water based and easy to apply with the spray bottle supplied or can be sponged on for horses that do not like sprays. Farriers Biosect works by coming in to direct contact with the Mites. It is important to thoroughly soak the skin area below the feather with this solution as this is where the mites live. Farriers Biosect Mite Spray is only effective on adult mites and you will need to reapply 10 days after initial application to ensure that any newly hatched eggs are taken care of. Use routinely after this.
Remember mites are very transmittable between horses and can be caught from shared areas of the yard like scratching posts. It is best to treat all the horses in contact with each other!
